22nd & 23rd January 2020 – A Site Visit to Pantai Morib, Banting by Faculty of Architecture & Environmental Design (FAED), Geomatika University College.
As one of the nearest beaches to Kuala Lumpur, Pantai Morib is an ideal spot for city dwellers in search of a quick weekend getaway by the sea. Morib Beach has a shoreline spanning approximately 3 km, shaded by whispering Casuarinas and swaying palms.
Most of the beachfront has been converted into a seaside promenade and recreational park, but there are still stretches of sandy beach towards the northern end that extends into the ocean during low tide.
The recreational park here is spacious and equipped with basic facilities, including gazebos and pavilions, playgrounds, gasing (traditional tops) spinning arenas, multi-purpose stages and food stalls.
Popular activities here include beach football and volleyball, kite-flying as well as golf at the seaside Sri Morib Golf Club.
On the first day, students from Faculty of Architecture & Environmental Design (FAED) required to conduct site inventory as a preparation for final project on this semester. A WW2 memorial in Pantai Morib commemorates the landing of the Indian army here in September 1945 as part of Operation Tiderace, involving the liberation of Malaya from the Japanese army. One of the soldiers to land here was Muhammad Zia-ul-haq, who eventually became the 6th president of Pakistan.
Furthermore, they conducted an activity called Doodle Art of Morib where the students can explore their unique and creative talent in a doodle. There were so much creativity and amazing ideas of group members. Other than that, they also visited Ros Kerepek Enterprise, the local supplier for kerepek and local traditional snacks which are well renowned in Banting and Kanchong Darat.
On top of that, we would like to convey our gratitude to Impian Morib Resort for the great hospitality to our students and lecturers of Faculty of Architecture & Environmental Design (FAED), Geomatika University College. We hope this event will benefit the students with amazing knowledge, experiences, and team work. Thank you to the lecturers who has worked hard to make this site visit possible.
