Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Credit Award (APEL.C) is a learning evaluation process that assesses an individual’s formal and informal learning experiences, including life and work experiences, based on cumulative knowledge and skills. These experiences are evaluated for their relevance to specific courses within a program of study and are converted into graduation credits, allowing you to complete your program faster.
The maximum percentage for credit award through APEL.C is 30% of the total graduating credits of a specific programme of study.
APEL.C is ideal for:
- Professionals with work experience related to a specific program.
- Individuals who have completed training or workshops relevant to program outcomes.
- Those with skills and knowledge gained through non-formal or informal learning.
There is no age limit, but applicants must be registered students at University of Geomatika Malaysia.
University of Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) supports lifelong learning by offering opportunities for students from various backgrounds to grow academically and professionally. You are eligible to apply for APEL.C at UGM, recognised by MQA as an APEL assessment centre, if you:
- Are a local or international student of UGM
- Have gained entry into UGM’s programs through either the conventional or APEL.A route.
- Are undertaking courses, including postgraduate programs, that are 100% coursework or mixed mode but not applicable to final-year projects and dissertations.
Complete the APEL.C Enquiry Form and submit it to the APEL Unit at Geomatika University Malaysia. A team member from the APEL Unit will contact you to explain the application process and assign an advisor. The advisor, an expert in the course and its learning outcomes, will guide you through the process.
i. Undergo a self-assessment to evaluate your eligibility for APEL.C credit awards.
ii. Submit a report on your prior experiential learning, an updated CV, and the Self-Assessment Form.
iii. Based on the advisor's evaluation, if eligible, complete the APEL.C Application Form. You will be guided to proceed with the appropriate assessment method, either a Challenge Test or Portfolio Assessment.
i. Challenge Test: Include written tests, oral examinations, and/or performance assessments, depending on the course's requirements.
ii. Portfolio Assessment: Prepare a portfolio showcasing evidence of prior learning relevant to the course’s learning outcomes. Supplementary questions may be asked to verify the evidence.
Candidates must achieve at least 50% of each course’s learning outcomes. Assessments will be conducted online.
After approval and endorsement of the results, successful candidates will receive the allocated credit for their courses, reflected on their academic transcript.
