The Diploma in Geographic Information System Technology (GIST) is designed to equip students with fundamental knowledge and practical technical skills in geospatial technologies to support industry and public-sector applications. The programme focuses on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), basic Remote Sensing, and spatial data handling for mapping, monitoring, and operational decision support. The curriculum emphasises hands-on and competency-based learning, covering spatial data acquisition, spatial database preparation, basic spatial analysis, and cartographic visualisation. Students are trained using industry-relevant tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Engine (GEE), supported by structured laboratory sessions, field data collection, and applied projects. Strong emphasis is placed on data accuracy, quality control, and effective spatial data presentation.
