Field Trip To Astro That Paves Way For Internship Placement

28 January 2020 – Students from Department of Broadcast Journalism and Creative multimedia had recently visited Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (ASTRO) to gain more understanding about the media broadcast industry. Twenty five students and two faculty members from Faculty of Computing and Innovative Technology (FACIT) recently had the opportunity to tour Astro HQ at their Bukit Jalil broadcast complex.

They had been given a tour around radio station, studio, master control room, production room and antenna. The field trip provides exposure to our students how the media industry operates, so that they can related the knowledge learned from lecture classes to the actual world.

The visit was to enable the students to experience the back operations of a TV stations and learn first-hand how the programmes (movies, dramas, documentary) were made and broadcast. Head of Programme for Broadcast Journalism, Mrs Yugeetha said the visit to Astro was the University’s way of imparting real industry knowledge to the students.

“The objective of this visit is to encourage students to learn from ASTRO about the production stage, how programmes live is being run and props are being arranged on everyday basis in the production studio”. she said. She also mentioned that students are very excited to explore the production studio and radio stations. She told that staffs in the ASTRO are very student friendly as they tried their level best to entertain student’s questions during the visit.

Other than that, the students were also given industry briefing on how to develop their careers and the different types of jobs and paths they could pursue, including talk about internship and graduate programmes at Astro.

According to Ms Liana from ASTRO said that students can experience hands-on training in the media and broadcast industry and benefit from a range of classroom-style training sessions through their internship programme. She also said that high-performing candidates will potentially be offered employment upon the completion of their studies.
