Today, the Universiti Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) proudly hosted the much-anticipated Institutional Transformation & Academic Leadership Forum 2024 at the esteemed Indasari Hall. This event gathered some of the most influential leaders and scholars in higher education, all sharing a common goal: to explore and shape the future of academic leadership and institutional transformation in the modern educational landscape.
The forum commenced with a warm welcome from the event’s emcee, followed by a welcoming speech from Yang Berbahagia Professor Emeritus Dato’ Ar. Dr. Elias Bin Salleh, Vice Chancellor of UGM. He expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests and speakers for their invaluable contributions to this event, emphasizing the importance of such forums in driving progress and innovation in higher education.
The event featured a series of insightful presentations, beginning with Yang Berbahagia Professor Dr. Harshita Aini Haroon, Director of the Higher Education Leadership Academy (Akept) under the Ministry of Higher Education. Professor Dr. Harshita shared her expertise on “Values and Competencies in Higher Education Leadership,” providing a comprehensive view of the qualities essential for leading educational institutions in today’s world.
Following her, Yang Berbahagia Profesor Datuk Surveyor Dr. Mohaizi Mohammad, President of Geomatika Edugroup, took the stage to discuss “Navigating Educational Leadership in a VUCA World: Strategy for Success.” His presentation highlighted the challenges posed by volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments and offered strategic insights for educational leaders to thrive in such contexts.
The third speaker, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Sri Ibrahim Bin Ahmad, Chairman of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Former Director General of MARA, presented on “Entrepreneurial University.” His talk delved into the concept of entrepreneurialism within academia, stressing the need for universities to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty alike.
Concluding the speaker sessions was Yang Berbahagia Professor Dr. Ahmad Zaki Bin Abu Bakar, Dean of the Institute of Technology Management & Entrepreneurship at UTEM, who spoke on “Leading Change Through Innovation and Strategic Initiatives.” His presentation emphasized the crucial role of innovation and strategic planning in driving institutional change and ensuring the long-term success of academic institutions.
The forum concluded with a dynamic Q&A session moderated by Yang Berbahagia Profesor Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohamad Nasir Bin Saludin, providing attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. This was followed by a certificate ceremony, where the speakers were honored with tokens of appreciation for their invaluable contributions to the forum.
As the day drew to a close, participants left with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, ready to implement the insights gained into their respective institutions.
