Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between Institut MARDI and Universiti Geomatika Malaysia

Universiti Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia (MARDI), marking a significant step in advancing education and research in the field of smart agriculture. This collaboration focuses on the application of modern technologies, including geomatics, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and drone technology, to enhance agricultural practices.

In addition to technology-driven agriculture, the partnership will also cover research in biotechnology, nanotechnology, food science, and food technology. Both UGM and MARDI will share facilities such as laboratories, instrumentation, and research plots to maximize the impact of their research efforts.

This MoU strongly supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with unique learning opportunities, including internships, short courses, academic research, and hands-on training in cutting-edge fields. The collaboration ensures that UGM students will gain real-world experience, enhancing their knowledge and skills while preparing them for future careers in technology and agriculture. Furthermore, joint education initiatives between students and faculty members from both institutions will foster deeper academic engagement and growth.

Representing MARDI was YBhg Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Zabawi bin Abdul Ghani, Director General of MARDI, while UGM was represented by Prof. Datuk Mazrin Rohizaq bin Che Rose, Deputy President 2, Global Engagement & Corporate Strategy.

This MoU reflects UGM’s commitment to providing high-quality education and equipping its students with the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving global landscape, in line with the objectives of SDG 4.
