Prof. Sr. Dr. Noor Rosly Hanif

Prof. Sr. Dr. Noor Rosly Hanif who was born and bred in Kuala Lumpur is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Industry at Geomatika University College (GUC). Now he is looking after programmes that being offered in the university to meet the requirements of MQA and the industry. He also holds the position of Dean in the Faculty of Built Environment, Surveying and Real Estate (FABUH).

According to him, the field of real estate is unique as it can embrace both the built environment and business.  In Australia and part of the United Kingdom (UK), these program/studies were placed under business school.

Prof. Sr. Dr. Noor Rosly Hanif who is on the crest was among the pioneers who built-up the Real Estate Programme in the Faculty of Built Environment at University of Malaya (UM). He was the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment UM from 2009 till 2014. He was also a professional Registered Valuer, Registered Property Manager and Registered Estate Agent with The Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agent & Property Manager (BOVEAP) Malaysia, Fellow Member of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) the UK. Hence, he is well-verse in handling people and the academic world.

“I like teaching because I have always wanted to share my knowledge and experiences with students. By being expertise in the industry of real estate, it’s nice to make the students observe that real world is actually differ from what they learned theoretically that can be applied to real-life by illustrating to them from what happened in the industry”, he said when asking about his interest.  He loves teaching the most and believes that those with the industrial background will be able to explain well to the students to make them understand the field beyond a shadow of doubt.

Where there’s a will, there’s away! In Geomatika he focuses on three (3) areas, those are academic, research and postgraduate. Those 3 focus areas are MQA documentation and Code of Practice for Programme Accreditation (COPPA), research culture and to upgrade a centre for postgrad students. Prof Rosly is an expert panel for Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for accreditation in Real Estate in Malaysia since 2010 and panel for APEL since 2018. He is actively organizing workshops on COPPA development in Geomatika for staffs to understand better the significance of preparing the documents for MQA.

“They can see the relationship between the documents, what you speak and write in the documents and what you are supposed to teach the students. These documents should be the contract documents between you and the students. Geomatika staffs are prepared to learn. In terms of management, it can improve further so that the students would feel they are part of GUC and they appreciate to learn here when they have proper guidance. If we can make them involved in the lecturer’s research then it benefits both lecturers and students. The students can also help the lecturers here with research making” he explained the benefits of learning about COPPA-ODL 2.0.

Apart from this, Prof.  Sr. Dr. Noor Rosly Hanif has shared a recipe for always success as he features GUC everywhere he goes. He utilizes his social network efficiently by sharing all the activities that involve him with GUC. He proudly introduces himself that he is coming from GUC.

“In GUC, we have very good lecturers, facilities and in a strategic location. Our name is established in the overseas too”, he added.

Prof.  Sr. Dr. Noor Rosly Hanif is delighted with the working environment in GUC, seeing how well he is being taken care of by the management along having supporting staffs.

“I come here to put GUC as far as other universities can come up with university ranking perhaps, we have plans. Even for UM, it is now just starting to bear fruit. It took several years before where it is now. Lectures are the key asset of a University. We have competent lecturers who are physically and mentally that willingly to change and support the vision.  Staffs grow together with the university. I try my best to bring up GUC, whereby we have a vision now to upgrade from University College to University. I’m trying my best to facilitate the University to achieve the vision”, he said that confidently.
