On December 18, 2024, the SciTech4U MOSTI program brought excitement and innovation to students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Setiawangsa (SKS). Organized by Universiti Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) with support from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), this initiative focused on sparking curiosity and enhancing students’ understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
SciTech4U MOSTI was a STEAM-focused camp designed to provide primary school students with hands-on experiences in science and technology. The program aimed to make learning more practical, fun, and relatable for students in Years 4 to 6, aligning with UGM’s commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking in young minds.
Key Objectives of the Program
- Integrating STEAM Concepts: Students explored how STEAM elements can be applied in their school subjects, making learning more engaging.
- Encouraging Curiosity: The program empowered students to ask thought-provoking questions, stimulating creativity and exploration.
- Building Confidence: Through interactive activities, students gained confidence in understanding and applying STEAM concepts in real-world contexts.
The SciTech4U MOSTI camp featured several engaging activities that captivated the students’ interest, including:
- Water Bottle Rocket: Students designed and launched their own rockets, exploring the principles of physics and aerodynamics.
- Static Electricity and Water Bending: Using balloons and water, students discovered the effects of static electricity in a simple yet fascinating way.
- The Oobleck Experiment: Students created and experimented with non-Newtonian fluids, blending chemistry with hands-on fun.
- DIY Paper Speakers: Participants built functional paper speakers, combining chemistry and engineering in an innovative project.
These activities not only made learning enjoyable but also demonstrated how science concepts can be applied in everyday life.
SciTech4U MOSTI 2024 was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on the young participants. Universiti Geomatika Malaysia is proud to have collaborated with MOSTI in inspiring future leaders in science and technology.
