The University of Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) recently held the Student Service Journey on Consumerism Program 2024, a four-day event in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. This program highlighted the importance of consumer awareness, foster family relationships, and cultural exchange, enriching the lives of both UGM students and the local community.
The second day of the program began with an energetic aerobics session, setting a lively tone for the People’s Sports Carnival. Throughout the morning, students and locals engaged in traditional sports and activities, followed by a series of insightful consumerism talks led by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism (KPDNKK). Alongside the talks, the event offered free health check-ups and informative exhibitions on consumer rights and responsibilities.
Yang Berbahagia, Datuk Maslin Sham Bin Razman, from the Board of Directors of the MARA Education Foundation, Perak, joined participants for a community feast, fostering camaraderie and exchange between students and the community.
After a morning of consumerism insights and community engagement, students were treated to a serene picnic at Ulu Kenas Recreational Forest in Kuala Kangsar. This natural retreat provided a refreshing break and further strengthened the bond between students and their foster families.
The Student Service Journey featured diverse and engaging activities throughout the program, including:
- Foster Family Program – Strengthening ties between students and local families.
- Traditional Sports – Reviving local sports and cultural practices.
- Free Health Check-Ups – Encouraging health awareness and wellness.
- Gotong-Royong – Collaborative community cleanup activities.
- Labu Sayong Ceramics Tour – A hands-on experience with local crafts.
- Food Donation Drives – Providing support to the community.
- Cultural Night – A vibrant evening celebrating traditions and customs.
The program concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony officiated by Mr. Fairuzzabadi Bin Zamzuri, Headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sayong, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Emotions ran high as students bid farewell to their foster families, marking a meaningful end to the event. UGM extends its gratitude to the residents of Kampung Pauh Sayong for their warmth and hospitality, as well as to everyone involved in making this program a resounding success.
