On 27 November 2024, Universiti Islam Melaka (UNIMEL) conducted a benchmarking visit to the University of Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) to gain insights into UGM’s implementation of Open Distance Learning (ODL) programs.
The delegation from UNIMEL was warmly welcomed by Prof. Datuk Sr. Dr. Mohaizi Mohamad, President of Geomatika Edugroup. The visit provided an excellent platform for both institutions to discuss best practices, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for academic collaboration.
The primary objective of the visit was for UNIMEL to study UGM’s ODL framework, which has been effectively designed to deliver flexible, accessible, and high-quality education. With the growing importance of distance education in today’s academic landscape, UGM has emerged as a leader in adopting innovative strategies that cater to the diverse needs of modern learners.
During the session, UGM shared its approach to:
- Developing a robust ODL structure that supports both students and educators.
- Leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Ensuring quality assurance in ODL delivery to meet industry and academic standards.
The discussions were interactive and insightful, with both parties engaging in meaningful dialogue about the challenges and opportunities in implementing ODL systems.
Beyond ODL, the visit also served as a platform to strengthen ties between UNIMEL and UGM. Both institutions expressed their commitment to fostering academic partnerships that would benefit students, educators, and the wider community.
The visit concluded with a sense of mutual appreciation and a shared vision for advancing education through collaboration and innovation.
