Universiti Geomatika Malaysia Celebrates Academic Excellence at 18th Convocation Ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 June 2026 – The sounds of traditional music marked the grand opening of Universiti Geomatika Malaysia’s (UGM) 18th Convocation Ceremony. Held at the Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, the event beautifully blended academic triumph with Malaysian heritage, featuring lively medley performances and traditional dances by the student Performing Arts Club.

More than 600 graduates crossed the stage to receive their hard-earned doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, and diploma scrolls. Witnessing this milestone were proud families, faculty members, and the university’s top executive leadership: Chancellor Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Wira (Dr.) Hajah Asmah Binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Pro Chancellor Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Irmohizam Ibrahim, President Professor Dato’ Surveyor Dr. Mohaizi Bin Mohamad, and Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Raduwan Bin Idar.

This year’s convocation stood out for its massive recognition of academic leadership:

UGM awarded its first-ever Professor Emeritus title to Professor Dr. Hj Mohammad Nasir Bin Hj Saludin (Director, Centre for Postgraduate Studies) for his 30+ years of dedication and management of over 150 doctoral graduates since 1995.

Furthermore, UGM elevated three internal senior faculty members to Associate Professors:

  • Muhammad Riyadh Ghozali Lubis – Associate Professor in Economic Sector
  • Gs. Nini Nurdiana Johari – Associate Professor in Geomatics Sector
  • Gs. Dr. Nur Hidayah Binti Zakaria – Associate Professor in Geospatial Sector

The university also appointed 26 distinguished professionals as Adjunct Professors and recognized multiple Professors of Practice for their impacts on sectors ranging from the halal industry and finance to law and communications.

The emotional peak of the ceremony belonged to the Best Student Award recipients, led by Chancellor Award winner Hassan Al Dahhak, who gave an inspiring speech reflecting on the collective journey, obstacles, and dreams of the graduates. Joining him in the top honors were Ibrahim Kalil Keita (Pro Chancellor Award), Muhammad Haikal Hakimi Bin Selamat (President Award), and Tan Jun Xian (Vice Chancellor Award).

UGM’s 18th Convocation proved that while a chapter has closed for these 600+ graduates, their impactful journeys out in the world have only just begun.
